Delores Maria Anderson

Delores Maria "Dee" Anderson, formerly of Athens and Atlanta, died Friday, July 12, 2019 from pneumonia at Harris Memorial Hospital in Sylva, N.C. She was 73. Her sister Lynne Anderson was by her side.

Delores graduated from Athens High School in 1963 and attended the University of Georgia for two years before she was injured in a serious car crash that interrupted her education. She graduated many years later from Georgia State University with a degree in business. She loved computers, and she spent many years of her life working in computer programming for various communications firms, including Alltel and Verizon, from which she retired.

Delores was the daughter of the late Virginia Gilbert Anderson of Athens and Atlanta and the late Umberto "Al" Bruschi of New York City. A brunette beauty, she loved to dance, play bridge and water ski.  She loved the Four Tops, Temptations and the Supremes. She was an excellent athlete and avid sports fan, especially SEC football. She loved to cook and gather friends together for a great meal, and she was an avid reader. She loved the North Carolina mountains and the many hiking trails in western North Carolina. She slowed down in later years from a debilitating back injury, but she faced her health problems with great courage and dignity. Her family remembers and treasures her quick wit, her sense of humor and generosity. Delores also loved dogs, especially her precious Kahla, who had been her most trusted companion for nine years. Over the decades, she had many different beloved small dogs, and she doted on each of them.

Survivors include four siblings, including Camille Anderson Robinson of Gainesville, Fla.; Benjamin Anderson of Asheville, N.C.; Virginia Lynne Anderson of Atlanta and Julie Anderson Taylor of Fayetteville, Ga.; a beloved cousin whom she considered a second brother, H. Linwood Gilbert of St. Petersburg, Fla.; cousin Glenda Gilbert Durden of Statesboro, Ga. and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be scheduled for a future date. The family suggests donations to the Humane Society or any charity of one's choice.
