Douglas Malcolm Moore

d. March 29, 2021

“When our work here is done and the life-crown is won, And our troubles and trials are o’er; All our sorrow will end, and our voices will blend, With the loved ones who’ve gone on before.” The last of eight children born to Baye (Bumgarner) and Ed Moore of Speedwell, Douglas M. Moore died on March 29, 2021 at The Hermitage assisted living facility in Sylva, North Carolina, following years of steady decline. He was 70 years old. Born and reared on Bo Cove Road, Doug grew up surrounded by family and loved by many. A prodigious athlete, Doug played sports throughout his life and contented himself faithfully to watch them once playing was no longer an option. Known for his gregarious personality, Doug quickly converted strangers into friends. His life was filled with many successes and failures, triumphs and tragedies. It was a complicated life, a quintessentially human life, a life defined by what was achieved as much as by what was lost.  His knowing smile, quick whit, pure tenor, and generous heart will be missed. He leaves behind three children, six grandchildren, and countless others who knew him well and knew him when. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to HIGHTS (www.hights.org), a local organization that serves vulnerable youth and families in Western North Carolina, or to The Douglas M. Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund at Western Carolina University (give.wcu.edu/Moore).

Formal arrangements will be made to honor Doug's life at a later date.

“Never grow old, never grow old, In a land where we’ll never grow old; Never grow old, never grow old, In a land where we’ll never grow old.”
