Eugene Early "Mac" McDowell

Eugene Early “Mac” McDowell, IV, 50 of Eden, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 pm Saturday, September 12, 2020, at First Presbyterian Church, 582 Southwood Drive, Eden, NC 27288,  with Rev. Peter Smith officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm at the church before the service and other times at the residence.

Mac was born in Greensboro on July 11, 1970, a son of Eugene Early McDowell, III and Judy Wiles McDowell, both deceased.  He was a truck driver for Averitt Express and a member of First Presbyterian Church.  He was an avid lover of history, football, grilling, and spending time with his friends and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anna McDowell Nash.

He is survived by his wife Sherry Lynn Johnson McDowell of the home; his children, Jessa Rexroad (Brittany) of Eden, Jonathan Rexroad (fiance, Ashley) of Eden; his sisters, Julie McDowell Townsend (Tony), Betsy McDowell Cooper (Tommy) of Candler, NC; his brother-in-law, David Nash of Raleigh; his grandchild, Nora Billings; his aunt, Betty de Brosse; and his uncle, James Wiles.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the ALS Foundation.

Boone & Cooke, Inc. Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. McDowell.

Mac was a sweet fella!!! Knew him from our time in Forest Hills and Cullowhee High School. I pray his family finds God's strength and peace during this difficult time.

Mac will be missed at work. He was a very hard working man who was always positive and had a smile on his face. Even better he knew his Savior. Miss you Mac. I pray that God comforts your family during this difficult time. Kenny Jones
