Perry Montgomery

Michael Perry Montgomery’s spirit sailed on to fish in the great heavenly lakes on October 21, 2019 after a brave and fearless fight against the earthly diseases that we all face.  In this life, Perry was an accomplished and respected builder and contractor in western North Carolina for more than 40 years, specializing in custom log and timber frame homes.  Perry had many interests, including being an accomplished skier.  He especially enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.  But, mostly, Perry loved being in a boat fishing.  Among his family and friends, he was affectionately known as the “Fish Whisperer,” because of his uncanny ability to find the fish no matter the season or conditions.  He was always quick with a smile, eager to share the fishing hole and was a valued friend to many. He attended Tuckasegee Wesleyan Church. While his family and friends miss him greatly; they are confident that today he is sharing fishing stories with the ones who went before him. Perry is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sharon Powell Montgomery and his two daughters, whom he adored, Kaylee and Aleea.

Originally from Albemarle, he was born in High Point, NC and was the son of Michael Montgomery of Albemarle, NC and the late Elizabeth Montgomery. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by a nephew; Christopher Watson and his mother-in-law; Betty Jean Powell.

Perry is survived by his wife; Sharon Powell Montgomery, two daughters; Kaylee Montgomery (Brandon Campbell) and Aleea Montgomery (Chance Mull), two goddaughters; Emma Campbell and Sidney Roy, two godsons; TK and Zach Beutell, two sisters; Kim (Robert) Farlow of Albemarle, NC and Teresa (Jimmy) Watson of Cherry Grove, SC and one sister-in-law; Patsy (Lee) Davis. He is also survived by his father-in-law; Rev. Jim Ed Powell, two nieces; Jade (Sean) Kluttz of Maine and Regan Watson of Concord, NC, one nephew; Kyle (Mandie) Dowling of Cullowhee, NC and two great nephews; Brody and Tucker Dowling.

Hank Dowling, Kyle Dowling, Pat Masson, Bert Medford, Terry Burleson, Robert Farlow, Jody Davis, Mike Munn, TK Beutell and Caleb Powell are serving as honarary pallbearers.

A Celebration of Life service for Perry will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at The Cataloochee Ranch, 119 Ranch Dr. Maggie Valley, NC 28751.

In lieu of flowers, a college fund for his daughters has been set up at the State Employees Credit Union in Sylva.

Sharon, Kaylee and Aleea, You all know that Perry was exceptionally special to us. Bert loved him as much as it is possible to love anyone and will always cherish the special bond the two of them had. The countless days they spent working and playing together are woven into the story of Bert's life and mine and our girls.. He will always be our "Purdy" and we will miss him for the rest of our lives. We love all of you so much. Bert, Kendra, Haley and Rachel

Sharon & girls Im so very sorry to hear of your loss. Perry was a very nice man & every time I ever saw him he was gracious & always had a smile...a real Southern gentleman. I know his passing will creat such a vacancy in your hearts & minds. You never quit missing your husband & dad but remember death is a separation. You will be together again someday
