Alvia Lou Buchanan, 76, of Sylva passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Mrs. Buchanan was born June 11, 1939 in Sylva, NC. She worked as a Nurse at Harris Regional Hospital. Alvia Lou loved crocheting and helping people. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Buchanan and by her parents David and Birdie Brindle Reynolds. She is survived by two sons, Doug Buchanan of Sylva and Steve Buchanan and significant other Karen Mason of the Balsam community. One brother, Bennie Reynolds of Franklin, NC. Alvia is also survived by two grandchildren, Cheryl Lynn Buchanan of Black Mountain, NC and Daniel Keith (Amber) of Candler, NC. Funeral Services will be held 12:00 PM Noon Saturday October 10 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. Charles Dean and Lloyd Fish officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until noon prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at East Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Great Smokies Health Foundation , PO Box 176, Sylva, NC 28779. Appalachian Funeral Services has been entrusted with all arrangements.
