Ann Stuart Muhlheizler Higdon, age 86, passed away peacefully on June 5th surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 19, 1940, in Somerset, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha Muhlheizler.

As a young girl, Ann moved with her family from Pennsylvania to Western North Carolina when her father came to work on the hydroelectric dam projects in Fontana. She later settled in the Cullowhee area where she met Lyndon Higdon who became her husband of 65 years.

Ann dedicated her professional life to healthcare as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Through years of hard work and leadership, she rose to oversee the laboratories at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva and Swain County Hospital in Bryson City. She was respected by colleagues and known for her commitment to excellence.

Beyond her career, Ann found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved reading books, creating beautiful needlepoint projects, spending time with her beloved dogs, and enjoying the peace and beauty of her native Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Pearson.

She is survived by her husband, Lyndon Higdon; her son, Gus Higdon and wife Adrienne; her daughter, Stacey Collins and husband Jerry; her grandchildren, Jessica Brooks, Lyndon Higdon, and Casey Collins; and her great-grandchild, Lennox Brooks. She also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and former colleagues who will miss her dearly.

A visitation and service will be held on Thursday, June 11th at 4pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.
