Barbara Jean Poyner

Barbara “Jean” Poyner, of Sylva, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday morning, May 24, 2022, at Skyland Care Center. She was born January 5, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late James and Christine Flynn.

She loved deeply and cared passionately. She enjoyed baking, tending her flower garden, and spending time with family and friends. Jean had a kind spirit and a way of spreading joy. Through her sense of humor, smile, and hugs she made everyone around her feel special.

Jean was preceded in death by husband, Jim Poyner, and her son, Jim Freitas. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Chris Freitas and Teri Walawender, son-in-law, Tom Walawender, grandchildren James Walawender and wife, Casey; Alyssa and husband, Jarrod Couch; and great grandchildren--Thomas, Josephine, Henry, Eloise, and Birdy.

We find comfort in the belief that she has been reunited with her husband and son and knowing that she has found comfort and rest in the presence of the Father in her heavenly home.

There will be a celebration of her life for family and friends on Sunday May 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at East Fork Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to East Fork Baptist Church, 2224 East Fork Road, Sylva, NC. 28779.
