Ben Odom
William Bennett (Ben) Odom born November 9, 2026 passed peacefully at home and was promoted to heaven April 9, 2026.
A kind and caring soul. Born 69 years ago in Greensboro NC, son of the late Henry and Mary Odom, brother to three sisters; Janice, Susan and Christine. Later, fell in love and married Carol, his forever partner.
Ben was a man of few words, unless he really had something to say! With a clever wit and playful sense of humor he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with a sophisticated point of view. He loved Jesus, and America too…. While attending Western Carolina University Ben fell in love with the majesty of these mountains. Upon graduation, he began learning to build a business in native landscape design and installation, creating beautiful properties with many clients who quickly became forever friends. He was mentor to many young men along the way who were able to help execute his artistic vision and share in the pride of a job well done. For over 40 years, he was blessed to collaborate with other local talent that chose to build and grow in our mountain communities.
Ben thoroughly relished the challenge of golf and admiring design elements on each course. He also loved to grow a large garden every year with vegetables, flowers and dahlias to share with as many as possible. He delighted in various games and hobbies, with music always in the mix of whatever he was doing. Ben was constantly learning and growing in faith, pursuit of knowledge, and revered the peace and beauty of being with family and friends everywhere. He stayed busy on his own slice of paradise whose palette was always being revised. He was never without the special bond of sharing life with a dog or dogs and had an animal wisdom care with all God’s creatures that was a treasure to witness.
A Memorial Service will be held with family in Greensboro, NC. There will be a Celebration of Life in the Cashiers area at a later date. Check for updates at the Appalachian Funeral Services website
