Betty Ann Dean

Sylva - Betty Ann McMahan Dean, 62, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at her residence.

Betty was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County and a daughter of the late Merckie Brooks McMahan. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Daniel Dean, whom she was married to for 34 years.

She is survived by a son, Andrew Dean (Patricia) of Franklin; one brother, James McMahan (Patricia) of Sylva; two sisters, Janet Cochran (Doug) of Bryson City and Linda Buchanan (Lowell) of Sylva; and two grandchildren, Jadie and Dylan. Betty was also blessed to have a special friend, Rhoda Berst.

A memorial service will be held for Betty at 1:00pm on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 pm prior to the service.
