Betty Sue Moore

Betty Sue Queen Moore, 90, of East LaPorte passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 at her home. She was born Monday, August 27, 1934. She was the last surviving child of eleven born to Rev. Thomas Cleveland Queen and Lessie Shelton Queen of John’s Creek. Betty Sue was a lifelong resident of Jackson County.

She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Lillie Foxx, Eva Broome, Juanita Queen and 7 brothers, Manuel (infant), Glen, T.H., Kit, Dewey, Edgar and Paul Queen. She was the widow of Raymond Moore.

Betty Sue was a member of East LaPorte Grace Community Church, Cullowhee, NC. She worked for Jackson County Schools for many years but spent her last years caretaking for many children. She was a “Granny” or “Nana” to all who walked into her home, no matter how long they stayed.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Moore, of the home and a son, Hank (Katrina) Queen of Cullowhee, NC. Also survived by a step son, Terry (Brenda) Moore, a step granddaughter, Roseanne Parris and a step great-granddaughter Madison Parris, all of Sylva, NC.

Betty Sue is survived by a grandson Michael (DeeDee) Queen of Sylva, NC and a great-granddaughter Mackenzie (Abe) Taylor of Greenville, SC.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Cynthia Queen (Tommy) Barnes of Sylva; and great-granddaughter Meghan Barnes (Justin) Partain; three great-great-grandchildren, Maya, Noam and Nora Jean Partain, all of Franklin, NC. Also, survived by great-granddaughter, Alyssa (Adam) Chandler and great-great-granddaughter on the way, all of Franklin, NC.

Special thanks to her niece, Fanny Queen Gosselin of Cullowhee, NC. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to the honorary families: Steve and Libby McRae, their daughters Lucy and Katy McRae, and, Richard and Barbara Starnes, their children Nathan and Emily Starnes. Also including, Alex and Eleanor Macaulay, their children Katie, Julia and Eliza Macaulay.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at East LaPorte Community Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
