Brona Stewart

Brona Middleton Stewart, born on October 26, 1933, in Jackson County, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on March 22, 2026, in Michigan. Brona's life was a testament to love, warmth, and devotion — qualities she poured into her home and family each day.

A true homemaker, Brona took immense pride in managing her household with grace and care. Those fortunate enough to visit her home would always find a meal on the stove, ready to nourish both body and soul, accompanied by her signature homemade breads and decadent puddings that brought comfort and sweetness to every gathering. Her kitchen was not just a place for cooking, but a sanctuary of love where memories were made and shared.

Brona’s heart was deeply rooted in her beloved North Carolina, where she cherished recounting the old stories and folklore of the mountains surrounding her home. Her voice wove the ancient tales that spoke of the land’s history and mystery, captivating those around her with vivid imagery and heartfelt passion. Beyond the hearth, she found joy in gardening and spending time outdoors, nurturing life in every form.

But above all else, Brona Stewart loved her family. She proudly celebrated her greatest accomplishment: her family who flourished under her care and affection. She was the cherished Mother to Darron Stewart and his wife Theresa; Great Gigi of Isaac and Aliza Messner and Jovi Stewart, and the loving grandmother to Kathryn Stewart Messner (Nathanael) and Matthew Stewart (Alaynie). Their lives were brighter and richer because of her enduring love and support. Brona was preceded in death by her late husband Bill.

Brona’s journey came to a close on April 4, 2026, with a burial service held at Middleton Cemetery in Tuckasegee, North Carolina, where she would rest beside her husband amidst the land that held so many treasured memories. 

Her legacy remains alive in the hearts she touched and in the warmth of the home she so lovingly maintained. Brona Stewart will be remembered as a woman who made a house a home, whose stories echoed the spirit of the mountains, and whose love was an unending gift to those she held dear.
