Jeanette Hensley

Catherine Jeanette Hensley, born on December 24th, 1935 in Jackson County, passed away on June 19th, 2023 at her home in Sylva. She was a strong and independent woman known for her unwavering work ethic and commitment to her family, friends, and community. 

Jeanette was a proud graduate of Sylva High School before embarking on her 59-year career at Massie Furniture Company of Sylva. Dedicated to her craft, she eventually became the owner and operator of the company for 37 years. Her friends and family will remember Jeanette not only for her hardworking nature but also for her kind heart and selfless spirit. Despite her busy schedule as a business owner, she always found time to support those in need and give back to her community.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter Kathy Alexander, son-in-law Steve Alexander, and grandson Steven Alexander. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. She is preceded in death by parents; husband Paul Hensley; and sister Carole Beck.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM followed by a funeral service at Appalachian Funeral Services located at 165 Skyland Drive in Sylva on June 24th, 2023.  Revs. David Powell and Steve Alexander, officiating.  Interment will follow in Sherrill Cemetery, Whittier NC.
