Known to many as “Dynamite”, Charles Whitney Massingale born September 4,1944 passed away at his home on May 7, 2026.
Dynamite was born in the Little Canada Community of Jackson County to the late Whitney and Mary Broom Massingale. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Audrey Waters Massingale, his son Jeffrey “Jeff” Massingale, four brothers, Lewis; Marvin; Cornelius; and Clinton, along with two sisters, Dorothy Brown and Ella Mae Swain.
He is survived by his daughter, Aprille Massingale McCall, and Ryan, his go to friend and confidant, who always had to cover for him to keep him out of trouble with Aprille. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Shelby McCall, his one true happiness, and constant side kick. Rebekah Wells (Nathan); and Brandon Massingale (KC Luker); as well as six great-grandchildren, all of whom he dearly loved. He also leaves behind two brothers, Talmage (Joe) and Delbert Massingale; one sister, Ethel Massingale Conner; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He will also be missed by his best friend, Herman McCall.
Charles was an avid outdoorsman, storyteller, and known for his love of hunting, fishing, barn dancing, and his love for the Lord. Charles was also member of East LaPorte Masonic Lodge. However, Charles’ greatest love was for his family, which will deeply miss him. When it came time for stories to be shared, Charles cherished the opportunity to share his stories at family dinners and around the campfire. He was the foundation and rock for his family and kept them connected. He was a true friend to all that knew him, a father to many. and will be missed by all but never forgotten. Rest well and we will see you again.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Canada Fire Department, P.O. Box 58, Tuckasegee, NC 28783.
The family has entrusted Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva, NC to help them with services which have been scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, beginning with a visitation at 11am and a celebration of life to follow at 12pm. All services will be held at Appalachian Funeral Service.
