Charles “Charlie” Lee ShularCharles “Charlie” Lee Shular, age 74, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters after a period of declining health.
Charlie was known for his sharp sense of humor, and love of making people laugh. If he wasn’t joking or aggravating someone, those who knew him knew something must be wrong. He was a hardworking man who devoted himself to providing for and caring for his family.
An avid musician, Charlie had a remarkable talent and could play just about any instrument placed in front of him. Music brought him great joy throughout his life and was one of the many gifts he shared with others. Heaven's music is surely sweeter now. I like to imagine him making beautiful music alongside one of his music brothers, Bobby Ginn, and the many others who have gone before him.
Charlie took great pride in his family. He was blessed with a loving wife, three beautiful daughters, and five grandchildren who were the light of his life. His greatest joy was being “Papaw,” a role he cherished and embraced wholeheartedly.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Evelyn Melton Shular; his daughters, Jennifer (Jason) Gregory, Jessica (Paul) Wilcox, and Crystal Shuler; and his beloved grandchildren, Olivia and Logan Gregory, and Coleman, Cameron, and Carly Wilcox. He is also survived by his brother, Leonard (Jeanette) Shular, brother-in-law, Derrick Coggins, mother-in-law, Susie Melton, several nieces and nephews, special friend and neighbor, Aaron Carter, and his dear friend, Bill Crawford, with whom he spent countless hours pursuing their shared interest in genealogy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.B. and Rita Mae Shular, his sister, Carolyn Coggins and his father-in-law, Ray Melton.
Charlie will be remembered for his laughter, musical talent, steadfast work ethic, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the memories that his loved ones will cherish forever.
Pallbearers will be Travis Coggins, Terry Shular, Dennis Bryson, Mance Gilder, Aaron Carter, Greg Broom, & Ricky Morgan. Honorary pallbearers: Jason Gregory, Paul Wilcox, Clarence Owen, & Derrick Coggins
Appalachian Funeral Services will be assisting the family with a Monday, November 2, 2026 visitation at Sugar Creek Baptist Church beginning at 1pm. Following the visitation a funeral service will be held at 2pm with Reverends Steve Webb and Eddie Stillwell presiding.
