Cleida Marie Crisp Stroup

Cleida Marie Stroup of Greer, South Carolina, former long-time resident of Sylva, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the age of 84 after a period of declining health.  She was born on July 16, 1938 in Duck, West Virginia.

Preceding her in death were her mother Dicie Ann Crisp, her father Noah Lester Crisp, sister Juanita Edwards and her husband of 58 years, William “Bill” Newton Stroup, Jr.

She is survived by her brother Harold Crisp of Sylva, NC and her children, Barry (Debbie) Stroup of Aiken, SC, Greg (Julie) Stroup of Greer, SC, three grandchildren, Brandon Stroup, Kelly (Jamie) Blackmon and Emma Stroup, and one great grandchild Julian Blackmon.

A devoted wife and mother, Cleida was a very kind, genuine and giving person who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She always had a warm smile, a listening ear and made quick friends with everyone she met. A former Miss Jackson County, she will also be remembered for her great sense of style and class. Her external beauty was a reflection of the light that she carried within. As a devout Christian, she lived her life as an example of her faith for all to see.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva, NC with pastor Eddie Stillwell officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Sylva, NC. Prior to the service, the family will be receiving friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.
