Clifton Eugene Fisher

Clifton Eugene Fisher, 72, of Cullowhee, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, after a period of declining health.

He was born March 16, 1951, to the late Howard and Earlean Parris Fisher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son.
Clifton graduated from Sylva Webster High School where he played football and wrestled.  He was an exceptional motor grader operator throughout his life at various construction companies. Clifton was employed at Western Carolina University for over 32 years where he retired as the grounds crew supervisor. He was a recipient of the Judy H. Dowell Outstanding Support Staff award and was one of the initial members of the Staff Senate. He was a long-standing deacon of Speedwell Baptist Church.
Clifton was the biggest supporter of his children and grandchildren. Nothing gave him greater joy than cheering them on in sports and extracurricular activities. He was so very proud of his family. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling. Clifton always had sharp wit and a strong sense of humor that made others smile and laugh.  He was an avid UNC Tarheel fan and he will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Christine Taylor Fisher; two daughters, Tina A. Fisher of Cullowhee and Jennifer Dills (David) of Waynesville; grandchildren, Devon Picon, Taylor Woodard (Luke), Madison Dills, and Lawson Dills; one great-grandchild, Soren Picon; one brother, Cecil Fisher (Eva Nell); one sister, Patricia Ann Crisp (Ronnie); his two loving cats, Lucky and Cleatus; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Reverend Clemmey Queen, Reverend Roger Stewman, and Reverend Terry Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at the Taylor Cemetery in Cullowhee. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
