Coleen Vivian Buchanan

Coleen Vivian Buchanan passed away on September 3, 2026, at Skyland Care Center. She was born in Swain County North Carolina on August 25, 1951 to the late Elmer Buchanan and Ruby Stevenson Buchanan.

Coleen will be remembered for the quiet beauty of the life she loved. She cherished living simply in Bryson City and found joy in the things that mattered most to her. She loved working with flowers, going fishing, camping, and digging gin sang. She also carried a sense of humor marked by a gentle mischievous streak, a quality that surely brought smiles and laughter to those around her. Above all, her family was her proudest accomplishment, especially her grand babies, with whom she loved spending time.

She leaves behind a family who will hold her memory close: her daughter, Janeen Frady; her sons, Brent Rich and Dwayne Vigil; her brother, E.J. Buchanan; and her sister, Frances Cline. Also surviving are grandchildren Brandi, Cody, Taylor, Kendra (Boo), Brody, Bryce. Along with great grandchildren Gema, Sawyer, Amiyah and Thatcher. In their love for her, and in the many memories they shared, her presence will continue to be deeply felt.

In addition to her parents, Colene is preceded in death by her Husband Harry Rogers and her sister Betty Winchester.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on September 12, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC 28779. A Celebration of Life will follow starting at 1:00 p.m. at the same location.

Coleen will be remembered with love for her warmth, her humor, her love of the outdoors, and the special devotion she gave to her family. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
