Conchita Extine Kelly, 82, passed away peacefully Monday, October 5th, 2026 at Harris Regional Hospital, in Sylva, North Carolina.
Born and raised in Jackson County, Conchita spent her life as an educator, homemaker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and in her spare time she loved to sew, thrift, and holler’ at her grand youngins. She spent most of her time as an educator at Log Cabin, Scott's Creek Elementary, and Cullowhee Valley Elementary. Conchita also loved spending time drinking coffee and reading her books while watching the cows in the pasture.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Lena Extine. Her brothers, Earl, Joe, Jack, Pete, and G.L. Extine. Her sisters, Odessa Jackson and Janet Spurgen. Grandchildren, Isaac Kelly and Christopher Sneed.
Left here to cherish her memories, husband of 58 years, Tom Hastings Kelly II. Children, Ronnie (Tammy) Kelly, Tammy (Wayne) Crawford, Tommy (Tamara) Kelly, Jason (Lisa) Kelly, Shannan Kelly, and Bobby Phillips. Grandchildren, Caleb (Megan) Kelly, Nikki Farmer, Brittany Crawford (Evan), Amber (Jamey) Ashe, Adam Kelly (Bridget), Mary Kelly (Cameron), Savannah (Hunter) Gass, River McBride, Zoe McBride (Logan), Hunter McBride, Zuri McBride, Justin Sneed, Josiah Sneed, and Jacob Sneed. Sisters, Juanita Waldroop (Donald) and Gaynell Britton.
Great Grandchildren, Haystin Kelly (Morgan), Gage Kelly, Harper Kelly, Ruthie Kelly, Braxton Farmer, Emmet Gass, Avery Gass, Mateo McBride-Green, and Finnley Starr.
Numerous nieces and nephews.
Special family members, Jimmy Sneed, Jennifer Pressley, Kimberly Wallace, Randy McCarter, Jim Rhinehart, and Shirley Pressley.
The family is receiving friends at 54 Sunny Brook Farm Road, Sylva, North Carolina. There will be a formal memorial at a later date. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Harris Regional Hospital ER Staff, ICU, and Hospital Staff; also Harris EMS Community Paramedicine, and Four Seasons Hospice.
