Cooter Wood

Cooter Wood, 87 of Sylva, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. He was born on March 11, 1936 in Jackson County to the late Dell and Cora Lowe Wood.

In addition to his parents, Cooter is preceded in death by his wife, Wilda Rogers Wood, sisters, Jacqueline Brown, Joyce Adams and Hilda Fisher, brother, Billy Wood and brother in law, Freddie Nicholson, 1 niece and 3 nephews.

He leaves behind a daughter, Teresa Wood of Sylva and a sister, Priscilla Brown of Sylva,  brothers in law, Rev. Carl Adams, Jimmy Nicholson (Gloria), Johnny (Joanna), sisters in law, Wanda Medford (Terry) and Linda Nicholson (Clarence Russell). He is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and very special cousins who were vital to his life and care as well as a special companion, Rosalie Creasman.  He never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm Monday, November 27, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church. Rev. Avery Brown, Rev. Ernie Jamison, and Rev. Earl Holden will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.
