Dennie H. Mathis

Dennie H. Mathis, age 80, of Sylva, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 18, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Patsy Mathis and the son of the late Charlie and Nora Lee Mathis.

He was a long-time member of Scotts Creek Baptist Church and was very active in the church, having served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member and as a member of the Building and Grounds Committee. An avid hunter, he also loved to work in the garden. Dennie dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Frankie Seals, his dear aunt and uncle, Sadie Henry and Clyde Henry and one son-in-law, Lt. Ellith K. McFalls.

Dennie is survived by two daughters, Carla (Randy Robinson) Robinson and Melissa (Chad Bumgarner) Mathis; one son, Chas (Chimene) Mathis; three grandchildren, Denise Robinson, Chastity Williams, and Colton Mathis; and one great grandson, Isaiah "The Dude" Robinson. Also surviving are one brother, Bobby Mathis and one sister, Sandra Fisher. Ayden and Addison Moody also survive along with several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Scotts Creek Baptist Church with Rev. J.D. Grant officiating. Burial will follow the service at Love Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.
