Dixie Irene Blanton

On Wednesday morning, October 12, 2022, Dixie Irene Blanton left this earth to meet her Savior and be reunited with beloved family. 

Dixie was born February 5, 1931 to Albert and Eva Mathis Frady. She was preceded in death by her husband Emmitt Blanton, brothers Sydney, Dave, and  Annis  "Buck" Frady,  a daughter Dinah Blanton Mathis, a grandson, Phillip Bodford, a granddaughter, Wendy Bodford, and a brother-in-law, Edward Dyer. 

Surviving are her sister, Betty Frady Dyer;  daughter, Anita Blanton Broom (Mike); grandchildren: Kyle Baldwin (Angie); April Bryson (Steve); Michelle Huston (Mark); Tyson Bodford; Sadie Simerly (Martin).  Also surviving are nine great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Bernice Clark. 

When she wasn't taking care of her grandkids, Dixie could be found cooking--at work at Western Sizzlin for many years, and always in her own kitchen. Some of her family favorites were apple sauce stack cakes, pan-fried chicken, and biscuits (for every meal).  She loved to make a good pound cake - because those would "keep all week until time to make a new one."  She enjoyed growing plants and flowers, watching gospel music on TV, reading her Bible, and praying daily with her friend and roommate, Dot Beck. 

She was Nana, Nanny, Granny, and Mamaw Dixie to the Broom family and many others who loved her. She spent her last four years at Skyland Nursing Center where "Sweet Mrs. Dixie" adopted many staff members as her own. 

Her love will remain in our hearts until we meet again.
