Donald Hugh Kemper

Don proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. The values he carried from his military service were reflected throughout his life, especially in the way he cared for and supported the people around him.

Don had a wonderful sense of humor and truly loved to laugh. He understood the joy found in a good joke, a funny story, and simply sharing laughter with the people he loved. He was also someone you could count on. Whether you needed an extra pair of hands, practical advice, or the benefit of his knowledge and experience, Don was always willing to help.

About ten years ago, Don and his wife Theresa moved from New York to North Carolina, a place he came to truly enjoy and happily called home. He was happy to be able to provide the house of their dreams in this beautiful state. He was also an enthusiastic movie buff. Few things made for a better evening than settling in with a good movie and an enormous bowl of popcorn. It was one of those simple pleasures that was unmistakably Don.

Above all, Don was a loving and faithful husband. He and Theresa shared a remarkable 42 years together — six years of dating followed by 36 years of marriage. Through those decades, they built something precious: a life filled with love, companionship, laughter, shared experiences, challenges overcome, and countless memories. Their marriage was more than the passing of years. It was a partnership and a commitment to walking through life side by side. Don’s loyalty and faithfulness were at the heart of the husband he was and the life they created together.

A life cannot truly be measured by the number of years lived, but by the people loved, the memories created, the laughter shared, and the difference made along the way. Those who knew Don will remember a man who showed up for others, found joy in simple pleasures, served his country with honor, and gave generously of himself. Don was blessed with an abundance of family and friends — far too many to possibly name individually. To each of you: you know who you are, and you know the place you held in Don’s life. Your friendship, love, laughter, and memories were part of the richness of his life.

After 42 years together, that love does not simply end. It lives on in the memories, the stories, the laughter, the quiet moments, and a lifetime that will always belong to the two of them.

Don will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. A beautiful life was built. A beautiful love was shared. A soul that will forever carry on. And that love remains.
