Dorothy (Dot) Hooper

d. December 3, 2020

Dorothy W. Hooper, age 91, of Tuckasegee, passed away December 3, 2020 after a period of declining health. Dot was born in Tuckasegee to Alvin and Fern Watson and lived most of her life in the valley she loved so much. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family and enjoyed the summer time working in her flowers. She worked at Eastgate Pharmacy for 12 years, owned and managed Rainbo Florist in Dillsboro for 13 years, and after retiring worked part-time at Country Road Farms. She was a member of Tuckasegee Baptist Church where she was the oldest living member. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and worked as a precinct worker for River Township for many years. She was also a charter member of the East La Porte Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Dot was a fan of Atlanta Braves baseball and Duke Basketball; she loved working crossword puzzles in the winter when she could not be outside working in her flowers. Dot is pre-deceased by her parents, Alvin and Fern Watson, brother, Sam Watson, sister, Helen Dillard and son Tracy Hooper.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Frank Hooper of the home; daughter, Sandra Hooper (Julie) of Candler; sons, Mike Hooper (Mona) of Tuckasegee; and Mark Hooper of Sylva. She also is survived by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren whom she loved so very much.

Due to Covid-19 the family will have a private graveside service with a memorial service held at a later date. Pallbearers will be Michael Hooper, Tighe Hooper, Scott Henry, Keith Mullins, Jeff Long, and Dan Hoyle. The family wishes to thank the in-home caregivers and staff of Four Seasons Hospice for the loving care given to our mother over the last several months.

Memorial donations may be sent to Tuckasegee Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 235 Woodring Cemetery Road Tuckasegee, NC 28783.
