Eddie Murial (Jones) Gunter

Eddie Muriel (Jones) Gunter, 91, of the Barkers Creek Community in Whittier passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2026.

Eddie Muriel was born on April 5, 1935 to the late Felix B. and Janet (Brooks) Jones, also of the Barkers Creek Community. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Carlyle Gunter.

Eddie Muriel was a charter member of Rockdale Baptist Church of which she attended until her death.

She was the mother of Kyra Gunter, Glenda (Jim) Blair, also of Barkers Creek, and Christy (Bob) Holland of Asheville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Candace Jamison, Justin (Brooklyn) Jamison, Seth (Lauren) Barnes and LaNae Barnes (Mike) Justice. Mrs. Gunter also has three step-granddaughters, Mackenzie (Chris) Frazier, Charlotte (Mitch) Mask, and Rebecca (Matt) Rossman; a step grandson, Bobby Holland; and six step great-grandchildren, Rachel and Katelyn Frazier, Bennett and Lena Mask, and Kailee and levi Rossman. She is also survived by her brother, Glenn (Brenda) Jones of Bryson City; one sister-in-law, Mary Alice Gunter (Ed) Pace of Darrington, WA; 24 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gunter lived in Idaho for 13 years where all three daughters were born. The rest of her life was spent on Barkers Creek.

Eddie Muriel approached life with an eye for beauty, finding joy in the vibrant colors of her love of flowers and the sparkle of her favorite pieces of jewelry!

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Rockdale Baptist Church with a service immediately following. Pastor Kevin Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in the Barkers Creek Cemetery.
