Effie Jane Mathis

Effie Jane Mathis, 91, of Sylva, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 .

Effie was born on March 22, 1935, to the late Bowden and Myrtle Robinson Mathis. In addition to her parents, Effie was preceded in death by her sister, Blanch Allen and her brother, Clint Mathis. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, and spending time with her family. Effie was a member of East Sylva Baptist Church.

Effie is survived by her sisters, Betty Bradley, and Joan Ellis (Billy); several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Fairview Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Scott Courtney officiating.
