Ellis Stiles

Ellis Stiles, age 98, of Dillsboro died Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Skyland Care Center. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Mr. Stiles was born May 22, 1917. He is the son of the late Hicks Columbus and the late Mary Alice (Rogers) Stiles. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Martha Marie Dalton, brothers, Thad Styles, Clarence, Weaver and Gilbert Stiles and sisters, Beaulah Tahquette and Minnie Rich. He was employed in construction, then shipping for Drexel Furniture. He was a member of Dick's Creek Baptist Church. He truly loved these mountains, especially this time of year. He also loved spending time talking with friends. He is survived by two daughters, Betty Bingham, Dillsboro; Alice and Jack May of Calhoun, GA; a son, Gene and Jan Stiles, Eureka, CA; grandchildren, Eddie Bingham, Maria Bingham Caldwell, Ricky Bingham, Randy May, Dale Stiles, and Brenda Payne; eight great grandchildren; and one brother Talmadge Stiles of Eugene, OR. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev. Keith Ashe and Rev. Ricky Conner officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm before the service. Burial will be in Fairview Gardens, Sylva on Wednesday, October 7 at 11:00 am. . .
