Frances Jacobs Lowe

Frances Jacobs Lowe age 81 passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 after a period of declining health. She was the only child of the late Roger and Pearl Mills Jacobs.

Frances graduated from Sylva-Webster High School, retired from Contel-GTE-Verizon Telephone Company. She worked 42 years at Thad Woods Auction in Waynesville. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 104 in Sylva since 1988, a member of Love's Chapel United Methodist Church, as well as a charter member of the Carolina Mountains Telephone Pioneers.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Lowe, and one grandchild.

Frances is survived by two sons, Chad Gates (Erin) and Mark Gates (Lola); eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The service will be conducted by Rev. Stacy Woods and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 104 will render honors.
