Fred “Pete” Mills

Fred “Pete” Mills, a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024. Pete was the son of the late Fred and Lucy Mills of Sylva N.C.

Pete was an avid trout fisherman, gardener and small engine repairman and outdoorsman. In the early morning hours, he could be found gathering the days produce from his garden or at the river with a fishing pole in his hand. Being the excellent small engine mechanic that he was, people from all around would often ask him to look at their equipment if they were having a problem and undoubtedly Pete could get them fixed.

Pete is preceded in death by his wife Floyie Mills. His father Fred mills. His mother Lucy Mills. And Brothers Hub Mills, Ray Mills and Claude Mills.
He is survived by his son and daughter in-law Derrel and Kay Mills of Sylva. Grandchildren Adam Mills (Angie) and Lauren Smith (Dustin). Great Grandchildren Taylor mills (Olivia) and Raylan Smith. And Great great Grandchildren Caiden and Easton Mills. Pete is also survived by one sister-in-law Gladys Mills of Sylva.

A visitation service will be held on Monday April 1st, 2024, from 6:00-8:00pm at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to Haywood Hospice in Pete’s honor. Donations can be mailed to 13 Haywood Office Park Suit 107 Waynesville NC, 28785.
