Freddie Eldon Watson, known to family and friends as Fred, age 63, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2026, surrounded by family and love.
Fred was born on August 18, 1962, in Franklin, North Carolina, and was raised in Sylva, North Carolina, where he spent much of his life and became a well-known and respected member of the community.
In July of 1980, Fred proudly entered the United States Coast Guard, where he served for four years and was honorably discharged. His service reflected the values he carried throughout his life—dedication, reliability, and quiet strength.
Fred was a highly skilled auto mechanic for more than 40 years and was widely known for his knowledge, honesty, and willingness to help others. In addition to his professional work, he volunteered with Rolling Start, a nonprofit mechanic organization that helped provide reliable transportation to low-income and needy individuals. Helping others was never a question for Fred—it was simply who he was.
He enjoyed classic rock music, classic cars, and spending time with family and friends. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his generosity, and the many quiet ways he showed care.
He is survived by his wife, Belinda “Susie” Watson; his sons, Shone Davis, wife Kimberly Davis, and Shay Davis, wife Jennifer Davis; and his beloved grandchildren, Amber Davis, Gage Davis, Jolie Davis, and Emsley Davis.
Fred was the son of Glen and Barbara Watson. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Watson, and his wife Barbara Watson, of Franklin, North Carolina; Cindy Cabe and her husband David Cabe, of Smithfield, North Carolina; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Fred will be remembered for his service, his craftsmanship, his kindness, and the lasting impact he had on those around him.
A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be scheduled and held at a later date.
