Sylva - Genevieve "Jeni" Smith, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at the age of 87.

Jeni was a daughter of the late Eva and Theodore Adams. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Painter and Phyllis Brooks; and two brothers, Marvin and Bill Adams.

Jeni grew up in Jackson County and graduated Cum Laude from Western Carolina University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Jeni taught in the Macon, Columbus and Cumberland County School systems. She studied interior design at Fayetteville Technical Institute and enrolled at Methodist College where she took several art classes. Jeni was a member of the Fayetteville Art Guild for several years. She created drawings in pen and ink of homes, schools, churches, old barns and North Carolina Light Houses along the coast. Several of her drawings are on permanent display at the Raeford Hoke Museum as well as homes in North Crolina and other states, She spoke at local civic organizations in Raeford about preserving the history of Hoke County through her drawings of historic places. After resigning from teaching, she volunteered at Raeford Hoke Museum helping design and maintain exhibits.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Sue Adams and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at a later time.
