George William Woodard, 67, of the Pumpkintown community of Jackson County went HOME to be with Jesus on Monday November 10. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, and Member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Verley and Christine Burnette Woodard. In addition to his parents, George is proceeded in death by a brother Lewis Woodard, Sister Sandra Bradley, brother-in-law Junior Johnson, and 3 nephews Jamie Ledford, Cody Angel and Joseph Moody.
George was a loving person who loved his family unconditionally. He loved to make everyone laugh, always telling jokes and funny stories. Before his health began declining he loved to work out in his beautiful flower garden. He was an excellent cook and loved to cook for his family. George was also an amazing writer and poet.
George is survived by his siblings Barbara Sorrells (Raymond), Troy Woodard (Bernice), Irene Welch (Doug) Pauline Ledford (Jim), Thelma Angel (Doug), sister-in-law Rachel Woodard, brother-in-law Foreman Bradley(Sarah). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved like his own children.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday November 16 at 2pm at Appalachian Funeral Services. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Zion Hill Church cemetery. George’s nephews will be pallbearers.
