Gladys Mae Sutton Cabe, of Sylva, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at the age of 98.
Born on April 23, 1928, her life was marked by a deep and unwavering faith in her Lord. Gladys was baptized on November 29, 1939, and remained a loyal and faithful servant of God and of her church, Wesleyanna Methodist Church, throughout her long and blessed life.
The matriarch of a five generational family, Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great, great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Waye McCoy Cabe.
Gladys was the beloved mother of her sons, John Waye Cabe and Frank David Cabe, both of Sylva.
She is also survived by her granddaughter, Shawna Cabe Taylor, and sons, Jonah Taylor and Landon Taylor, and Landon’s fiancé, Kayla Spire.
Her granddaughter, Tonya Presley, and her husband, Jerry Presley, also survive her, along with their children: Keith Wyatt and his wife, Nicki and their daughter, Isla Mae Wyatt; Matt Presley and his wife, Emilie and their son Isaac Presley.
She is also survived by her grandson, Travis “Sonny” Cabe and his daughter Journey Cabe.
Throughout her 98 years, Gladys remained steadfast in her faith and devoted to the Lord she loved and served. Her life was a testimony to faithfulness, love, family, and commitment to her church. She will be remembered and deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Gladys’ earthly journey has come to an end, but her faith has carried her home to be with the Lord.
Visitation will be held at Wesleyanna Methodist Church, 145 Garland Buchanan Rd, Sylva, NC 28779, on Thursday, September 10 from 10 until 11 am. The Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am, followed by a graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gladys’ lifelong church, Wesleyanna Methodist Church, in her memory.
