Gregory Kirk Lilly

Gregory Kirk Lilly, age 68, passed away at his home on Caney Fork on May 27, 2024.

A 1973 graduate of Southern High School, in Durham, North Carolina, Greg Lilly attended Brevard College before transferring to Western Carolina University, where he earned a degree in Geography—studies that led to a lifelong interest in meteorology and the natural world. After graduation, he worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation. He later studied Respiratory Therapy at Sandhills Community College and worked for a time in Virginia.

Greg loved hiking, and when his health declined, drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway. He spent his later years closer to home enjoying the sights and sounds of Caney Fork. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of modern music and a lifelong love of wordplay.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elzie and Edna Lilly, and his brother, Phil Lilly. He is survived by his niece, Laura Willard, and many cousins.
