Hilda Ann Nevius, 76, of Glenville, went home to be with the Lord peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 2, 2025 after her courageous two year battle with cancer.
Hilda was born on December 22, 1948 to Doyle and Irene Hughey and grew up in the Cashiers area. She graduated from Glenville High School and attended Brevard College. Afterwards, she went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Terry Nevius. She was happily married for over 53 years and raised four grateful children: Trent, Holle, Colette, and Joel. She also adored being Grandma to her thirteen grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Hilda will be remembered for her infectious joy and laughter, her uncommon selflessness and hospitality, and her unwavering commitment to following Jesus. Hilda was known for how she loved beautiful things–especially flowers. She worked as a floral designer for nearly 30 years and in retirement enjoyed designing floral arrangements for her church, often from her own garden. She also expressed her love to her family and others by cooking scrumptious, southern meals. Hilda was thoughtful and caring to those in her community, often being the first to bring meals and flowers to people who needed comfort and encouragement. She gave to others as her Lord Jesus did – with love, humility, and thoughtfulness. In doing so, she gave many that she knew a small taste of heaven.
She is survived by her loving husband, Terry Nevius; her children, Trent Nevius, Holle Wollin (Jamie), Colette Kittel (Jonathan), and Joel Nevius (Becca); her grandchildren, Taylor (Janny), Connor, Hannah, Sophie, Thomas, Eli, Luke, Anneliese, Mae, David, Noah, August, and Cora; and her sister Brenda Moss (Larry) and brother Leland Hughey (Jayne) of Cashiers, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Irene Hughey, and her brother, Clay Hughey.
A funeral service will be held at Cashiers Baptist Church on Saturday, August 9, at 1:00pm, with the family receiving friends from 11:00am to 12:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. A burial service for her family members will be held at the Hamburg Baptist Cemetery in Glenville following the funeral service.
Flowers are always welcome. However, small acts of compassion and mercy to others are close to Hilda’s heart and would honor her memory (taking a meal to someone in need, visiting a shut-in or someone lonely, caring for someone who is sick or making something special to encourage someone).
