James Ray Conner, 81, of Glenville passed away on Friday, December 19, at home after several months of declining health. He was born to the late Claude and Bonnie Conner in Jackson County on July 9, 1944. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Bessie Franks Conner, siblings Luease, Elizabeth, Gracie, George, and Cora Lee.
James was a dedicated employee of 65 years at High Hampton. He wore many hats during this time ranging from fairway care to working the backhoe. In his later years he enjoyed taking the children of guests on rides pulled by the miniature donkeys.
James was an avid animal lover. He enjoyed raising his miniature goats, feeding the birds and racoons and watching the deer and the occasional bear get a little too close for comfort. They always seemed to know that they were safe in his presence.
Above all, James loved his family. He is survived by his three daughters: Patricia (Jack), their son Jared, Maggie (Steve), their children Johnathan, Suzanne, James and Leeann, Theresa and her sons Conner and Hampton and 17 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Eula Mae Kilby, Bonnie Brown and Bill Conner.
His family would like to thank the people from Four Season and all those connected for their loving caring during his final days.
A funeral service for James will be held at Hamburg Baptist Church in Glenville, NC on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 2pm with Pastor Jeremy Queen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 1pm-2pm. Burial will follow the funeral service at Hamburg Baptist Church Cemetery.
