James Michael Novitske, 88, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025 in Sylva, North Carolina.
Born in Johnson City, NY he eventually retired in Myrtle Beach, SC to pursue his love of golf.
He served honorably in the United States Air Force, where he was a member of the distinguished Drum and Bugle Corps. His time in service deepened his already strong sense of patriotism and cultivated a lifelong love of music that he carried with him throughout his life.
A lover of food and the outdoors, James was someone who truly knew how to enjoy the little things. He took life slow, always taking the time to admire the scenery around him. His laid-back nature and steady demeanor made him a calming presence to all who knew him—he was rarely, if ever, angry and loved a good joke.
James is survived by his loving daughter, Ann-Maria Novitske. The eldest of eight siblings he is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Hatala, and three brothers: Dan Novitske, Charles Novitske, and Dennis Novitske (Kathy), as well as his sister-in-law, Gloria Novitske.
He was predeceased by his parents, Anne and Leonard Novitske; his sister, Kathy Silvanic; and his brothers, Glenn and John Novitske. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him—as a brother, father, and a friend.
A private memorial will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a veterans’ organization of your choice.
