Janie Burrell Fowler

Janie Burrell Fowler, age 95 of Glenville NC, passed away on Thursday February 2, 2023.   She was born on August 1, 1927, in Jackson County, to the late Lunie Henry and Susan Nicholson Burrell. 

Janie was well-known for her cooking especially her baking. She made hundreds of cookies each Christmas to share with her neighbors and friends. Her cakes were always the first to go at the bake sales for local charities.  She also made Christmas bags for the classmembers of each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren which included a handmade ornament, candy and of course a candy cane.  She was a master craftsperson making hundreds of items including dozens of crocheted afghans.  One of her great joys was being the first Christmas card received by everyone on her list.
  
She will be dearly missed by her loving children, Charles Fowler (Rebecca), Susan Fouts, Linda Hollifield (David); nine grandchildren; tweleve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.  She is also survived by two loving caregivers and friends: Connie Watson and Stephanie Hensley.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Taylor Franklin Fowler; son, Henry Fowler; her brothers, Otto, Chris, Jack, & Frank Burrell; and her sisters, Emma Deal, Agnes Beck, and Marguerite Merritt.

Her favorite charity was the Glenville-Cashiers Rescue Squad.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM – 8:00PM on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva NC.  A Graveside Service will take place at 2:00PM, Sunday February 5, 2023, at Hamburg Cemetery, Glenville NC.
