Jessica Chandra Kirkland
May 2, 1989 - April 7, 2024
Jessica Chandra Kirkland, a vibrant and dedicated mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend,
passed away suddenly on April 7, 2024, at the age of 34.
Born on May 2, 1989, Jessica was a shining light in the lives of those who knew her. As a single
mother, she worked tirelessly to provide the best life for her children, J.J. Kirkland (15) and
Drevaughn McVay-Kirkland (11), as well as her step-children, Ja'Quan McVay (18) and Leila
McVay (16).
Jessica was employed by Skyland Care Center, where she was recently promoted to Activity
Director. Her beautiful voice and love of singing brought joy to all who heard her. Her strength,
conviction, and steadfast beliefs inspired those around her.
As a dedicated mother, daughter, friend, sister, and aunt, Jessica was always there for those
she loved. She showered her family and friends with love, appreciation, and affection, often
expressing her feelings with a hug, voice text, or nickname.
As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in the words of Gandhi: "There
are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart."
Jessica is survived by her mother, Malinda Kirkland; step-father, Roger Bigham; sister, Jennifer
Wooten; nephew, Wesley McCall Wooten; and her children and step-children.
A memorial service will be held at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC
28779, on April 28 from 1-2 pm. The family welcomes flowers to be sent to the funeral home in
celebration of Jessica's life.
Rest in peace, dear Jessica. Your love, light, and legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
