JoAnn Buchanan Garner

JoAnn Buchanan Garner, 85 of Greens Creek Community passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026. She was born in Jackson County on February 15, 1941 to the late Edd Buchanan and Clearsie McMahan Buchanan.

JoAnn enjoyed reading, cooking, working in her flowers and arranging events for the Greens Creek Baptist Church. Jo Ann loved her family, especially her grandchildren, who she adored. She was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church. She retired from the Town of Sylva after 20 years of service.

JoAnn is survived by her husband of 63 years, Allen Garner; daughter, Pam Crowe (Robert), Judy Garner; granddaughter, Brittany Killian; great grandchildren, Kylee, Garner, Oaklen; brother, Kenneth “Buddy” Buchanan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn is preceded in death by her brothers, Aldon, Donald and Ray Buchanan; and sisters, Hilda Sutton, Catherine Green, Louise Cabe, Frankie Cowan and Pauline Henderson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Appalachian Funeral Services Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Greens Creek Cemetery. Rev. Tom Lavin, Rev. Eddie Stillwell and Brandon Green will officiate.
