Kay Taylor Bryson, 64, of Cullowhee, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 26, 2022. She was a loving wife to her husband Rev. Larry Bryson. She was born on May 11, 1957 to the late Jimmie Bryson and David Taylor.
She held many roles throughout her life. Most importantly, she loved her Lord and served him fervently throughout her life. She was a faithful, kind, and supportive wife, mother, nannie, sister, daughter, and friend. She held it a high honor being a preacher’s wife and she supported so many people in that role throughout the years, especially her husband. She was her kids’ number one supporter, friend, and inspiration throughout their lives. Her grandchildren were the light of her life; she would light up anytime they were around or even mentioned. She loved spending time with each of them and making sure they were “well loved.” She was known as Mama Kay or Nannie Kay to many other children throughout the years. She was a go-to for many people and would always be there with positive, but honest, words to say.
She has spent many years being an in-home aide for many families through her job as a home health CNA and in the past few years as a hospice aide. She enjoyed being able to support families and provide the love of Christ to them when times were hard. She was known for her bright smile that lit up the room and welcoming spirit to anyone she came in contact with. She was a kind, sweet soul. She loved spending time working in her flower beds, cooking, and baking, but again her favorite times were spent surrounded by her family.
In addition to her husband of almost 45 years, she is survived by her children, Jamie Bryson and Stephanie (Matt) Ammons and her grandchildren, Jordan Bryson, Sawyer, Brady and Baby Ammons, and Bailey and Jack Bumgarner. Her children were her pride and joy and her grandchildren were her ultimate treasures. She is survived by her dad, Thomas Bryson and Grandmother, Ruth Bryson “Granny Ruth” and step-mother, Jean Taylor. She was the big sister to Russell (Terry) Taylor, Connie Watson, Mark (Trina) Taylor, and Pam Taylor all of Cullowhee. She took great pride in being their big sister and lending a listening ear whenever it was needed. She is also survived by aunts and uncles, including William Taylor, Ruth Miller and Lila “Sissy” Buchanan. She was often referred to as Mama Kay by her nieces and nephews, Crystal (Katdim) Smith, Steven (Chassidy) Taylor, Chris Watson, Dustin Hooper, Brian “Woogie” (Taya) Hooper, Travis Taylor, Megan (Brian) Davis, Cody (Megan) Taylor, Zach (Megan) Sorrells, Samantha Gunnels, and Sabrina (Tyler) Conner. She was also loved as Nannie Kay to numerous great nieces and nephews. She was loved as their own by her mother-in-law, Ada Bryson, sister-in-law, Sheila (David) Nicholson and brother-in-law, Robin Gunnels. She also had many extended family members and friends that she loved dearly and considered her own.
She is also proceeded in death by her grandparents, many aunts and uncles and her sister-in-law, Sherry Gunnels, her father-in-law, Bill Bryson, and many other loving family and friends.
The family will be honoring her life on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 2:00 at Promise Land Baptist Church, 8359 HWY 107, Cullowhee, NC 28723.
