Kevin Philip Gardner

“Dave Mathews Band is the best band of all time! Talk me out of it.” ~KG

Kevin Philip Gardner, of Sylva, NC, died on May 13, 2024 at the age of 38, from a medical complication. Our gentle giant with a kind spirit, thoughtful heart and brilliant sense of humor will be missed dearly.

Many people will remember Kevin’s quiet, laid back nature; but when he was passionate about something, he was captivating. He loved: movies—“Star Wars is the best franchise of all time”; animals—“nothing is better than orcas”; music—“Dave Matthews Band, period” (he’d been to ~25 shows); his pets: turtle (FDR), cat (Kobe), snakes (Haiku, Nebula & Andromeda)—“humans don’t deserve animals! Talk me out of it.”

His laid back nature transformed into an animated, unrelenting debater when his people, passions or politics were discussed. Always engaging, thought-provoking and respectful—and fun to get riled up.

The only thing Kevin loved more than a good debate was his family—and, he was loved fiercely by them! Kevin is survived by his parents—Patrick and Katerina; siblings—Erin (Alex), Clarissa, Mary and Emily; nieces & nephews—Avery, Curtis, Aydan and Meryn; and preceded in death by his brother, C.J. and beloved dog, Obi Wan. Kevin will also be missed by friends who he loved like family, extended family and a mentor who he respected deeply.

Kevin’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. To have him in your life was to know magic and to see him really smile was to experience sunshine—he was simply the best son, brother and friend. Don’t even try to talk us out of it!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kevin’s name to one of the following organizations who best support his passions:
