Lee Harrison "LH" Gunter, 79 of Sylva, was called to his Heavenly home Saturday morning March 25, 2023

A lifelong resident of Jackson County, LH was the son of the late Jack Ervin Sr. and Bonnie Gunter.
LH was in the first graduating class of Sylva-Webster High School in 1961, where he was voted Most Athletic in his senior class, and where he would meet and marry his high school sweetheart Shirley. 
He dedicated his younger years to coaching and promoting youth sports in Jackson County. 
He was a dedicated member of East Sylva Baptist Church and he adored his Sunday School Class. LH was a devout lifelong Carolina Tar Heel fan.
He enjoyed anything to do with sports and supporting his grandchildren's endeavors. He also found time to just enjoy sitting on the back porch listening to music, or trips to the beach or just a peanut butter sandwich. 
He worked for over 32 years and eventually retired from Dayco Corporation. 
Simply said, LH devoted his life to his family.  
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Shirley Cabe Gunter, his brother; Jerry Lloyd Gunter and a nephew; Sammy Gunter
He is survived by 2 Daughters; Sherri Gunter ( Len) LeCompte of Denver, NC
                                                       Beth Gunter (Bryan) Ledford of Shelby, NC
6 Grandchildren; Nicholas and Abigail LeCompte, Megan and Molly Rathbone, Garrett and Meredith Ledford
1 Great Granddaughter; Harper Leigh LeCompte, 
1 Honorary Great Grandson Emmett Alden Gass
2 Brothers; Ronnie (Darlene) Gunter of Brevard, NC
                     Jack (Betty) Gunter Jr. of Brevard, NC
1 Sister-in-law; Jackie Gunter
6 nieces and nephews 
And a very special friend; Jean Carr and her family, Jennifer Pressley, Hunter and Savannah Gass

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday March 30, 2023 at East Sylva Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Dean officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 until 3:00 prior to the Service at the Church.
Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
