Lee Roy Long, 79 of Sylva, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Lee was born on May 30, 1946 in Jackson County, to the late Grinnell and Louise Long. Lee enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with his family. He served Honorably in the Vietnam war in the United States Marines, 1963-1967.

Lee is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Long; son, Johnny Buchanan (Diane); daughters, Jennifer Bright (Bobby), and Misti Webb (Robert); grandchildren, Nicole Hannah (Hunter), Bo Webb, Andrew Boggs (Jessica), Chynna Wallace (Danny), Colby Buchanan (Adrienne), Casey Buchanan (Brooke); great grandchildren, Colton Boggs, Areli Wallace, Camden Buchanan, Makayla Buchanan, and Cadence Buchanan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Lee is preceded in death by his son, Jamie Buchanan and brother, Grinnell Long Jr.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. Burial will follow at Franklin Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12:00-1:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
