Born November 17, 1935 – Buruienesti, Romania
Leon Faraoanu, beloved father, grandfather, and man of faith, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, sacrifice, and steadfast devotion to family.
Born in Buruienesti, Romania, as the youngest of six siblings, Leon’s early years were marked by a strong work ethic and academic talent. His dedication earned him a full scholarship to study agricultural engineering. While at university, he met the love of his life, Aurelia Cornoiu, who became his wife and lifelong companion. Together, they raised their cherished daughter, Ofelia, with deep care and unwavering love.
Settling in the town of Bârlad, Romania, Leon became a respected leader in his community as the lead agricultural engineer. He lived his life guided by his Catholic faith, his commitment to hard work, and his devotion to those he loved.
After Aurelia’s passing, Leon once again put his family at the center of his life, leaving behind the familiarity of his home country to join his daughter Ofelia, son-in-law Martin, and granddaughter Ana, in Canada, and later the United States. In this new chapter, his sacrifice shone brightly: he became Ana’s full-time caretaker, nurturing her faith, language, and culture, while providing unwavering support to his family. His care allowed Ofelia to pursue her calling as a physician, Martin to thrive in his engineering career, and Ana to grow into her own vocation as a physician.
Leon’s life was a testament to the quiet power of devotion. He modeled a deep and abiding faith, and showed his family—by daily example—what it means to live with purpose, integrity, and love.
He is survived by Ofelia, Martin and Ana. He is dearly loved and will be remembered forever in the hearts of his family and all whose lives he touched.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sylva with Father Paul Asoh officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to mass. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
