Lois C. Ensley

Sylva - Lois Cowan Ensley, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 25, 2023. Born
Lois Marie Cowan on March 31, 1937, to Cicero Cowan and Alice Deitz Cowan, she was a life
long resident of Jackson County, NC. Lois was preceded in death by two siblings; Harold
Cowan and Mildred Cowan Shuler.

Lois is survived by the love of her life, Tom Ensley. They were married September 14, 1957,
and celebrated 66 years of life together in 2023. Lois is the mother 5 children. Shirley Ann was
her first child, but only lived a short time and passed away soon after her birth. Lois is survived
by her other 4 children: Tommy Ensley (wife, Regina), Jan Revis (husband, Jim), Russell Ensley
(wife, Rebecca), and Arlecie Hoxit (husband, Michael).

Lois, lovingly known to everyone as Nana, was also blessed with 9 grandchildren. She is
survived by 7 of her grandchildren: Erin Morrison, Jessica Stern, Samantha Ensley, Catherine
Ensley, Meghann Davis, and Coleman Hoxit. Two of her grandchildren preceded her in death in
March 2022; Noah Ensley and Bridger Ensley. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, as
well as several nieces and nephews.

Lois was the living testimony of a Proverbs 31 woman. She dedicated her entire life to her
family, her husband, and their home, demonstrating an attitude of service like that of her Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lois will always be remembered for her gentle spirit, her loving, caring
heart, and the joy she found in good conversations and laughter. Lois also enjoyed listening to
Southern Gospel Music, especially that of the Primitive Quartet. Nana Lois was known for her
wonderful biscuits served with her homemade jams, jellies, and apple sauce.

Lois was a devoted member of Ochre Hill Baptist Church, where she was actively involved in
Sunday School, Worship Services, and Prayer Time until her health prevented her from leaving
home. While homebound, Lois continued to pray for her family, church family, and community.
Lois leaves behind a legacy and Biblical example of a virtuous, blessed woman. Her family and
the love they share for one another and show to others exemplifies the life that Lois Ensley
instilled in her own children and all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services.  Burial will follow at East Fork Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
