Marcus Barker

Marcus Barker, 87, of Sylva went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 14, 2022. Marcus was born on July 18, 1934 in Jackson County to the late Ottis and Virginia Barker.

Marcus enjoyed going to church, gardening, and sitting on his front porch waving at everyone that passed by. He loved his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marcus was the oldest member of Old Savannah Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Marcus loved the Lord. He will be missed by many.

Marcus is survived by his daughter, Lynn Beaver (Alvin); son, Tim Barker; grandchildren, Jennifer Reed (Daniel), Timara McCollum (Johnathan), Angela Sage (Michael); great-grandchildren, Keegan Reed, Brixton Reed, Jozsa McCollum, and Azsa McCollum; sister, Clare Bell Martin of Union, SC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Marcus is preceded in death by in wife, Doris Moore Barker, and brothers, Freeman, Donald, Thomas, and Doyle Barker.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Old Savannah Baptist Church. Rev. Austin Frady and Rev. Eddie Stillwell will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Old Savannah Cemetery.
