Mary Annette Hornsby

Mary Annette Hornsby, 78, of Sylva, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. She was born on September 14, 1947, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late George Denny and Evelyn (née Murray) Denny.

Annette was a retired educator who taught at both the elementary and college levels. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and spending time at the beach and in the mountains. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends.

Annette will be dearly missed by her children, Marc Hornsby, Heather Hornsby, and Caroline Powers; her sister, Sandra (Dan) Kerns; her sister-in-law, Jody Speagle; her grandchildren, Hope (Jacob) Extine, Allyson, Chase, and John; and her great-grandchildren, Bennett and Lucas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hornsby Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Sylva, with Pastor Mark Rogers presiding. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Appalachian Funeral Home of Sylva.
