Mary Farmer Owens

Mary Farmer Owens, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and foster grandparent, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023. She was born on February 27, 1938, in Jackson County to the late Jerome and Mauda Carver Farmer.

Throughout her life, Mary pursued various occupations. From working at a sewing plant to managing housekeeping tasks, she embraced every opportunity with dedication and perseverance. However, it was her role as a foster grandparent at Webster daycare that truly brought out the best in her. Mary adored the kids under her care and they reciprocated that love wholeheartedly.

In addition to her fulfilling career, Mary reveled in her hobbies and cherished spending time with her family. She had a deep passion for reading and sewing, constantly expanding her knowledge and honing her skills. Mary's family meant the world to her; teaching them about Christ and sharing her wisdom brought immense joy to her heart.

Mary is survived by her son Thadus Kirkland and several generations of descendants who will continue to carry on her legacy. Her grandchildren, Crystal Jeter Baldwin, Cassie Dulane Elders, Venora Chris Farmer, ten great-grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.  Her sons, Kenneth Turkey Kirkland, Vance Kirkland, and Sherill Tex Kirkland held a special place in her heart throughout their lives. Her siblings, Roscoe Farmer, Vercoe Farmer, Kitty Finley of Lexington Lucymae Harris, Edith Harris were not only family but also lifelong friends who supported each other through thick and thin.

Family was everything to Mary, and she treasured the time she spent with them. Her grandchildren Crystal Jeter Baldwin, Cassie Dulane Elders, Venora Chris Farmer held a special place in Mary's heart. She was always delighted to surround herself with the laughter and energy of her ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Farmer Owens will be remembered as a loving mother figure to those who knew her best. Her kindness knew no bounds as she dedicated herself to nurturing and teaching the children she watched over at Webster Daycare. The impact she made on their lives will be felt for generations to come.
