Mike Broom, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in hospice care at CarePartners Asheville.

Born on September 15, 1950, to Frank and Beulah Broom, Mike was the devoted husband of Anita Blanton Broom, with whom he shared 34 wonderful years of marriage since 1990.

A skilled craftsman by trade, Mike worked as a mason and carpenter throughout his career. His professional journey took him from Atlanta, Georgia to various locations across South Carolina and Western North Carolina, including Waynesville and Balsam Preserve, before establishing himself as a self-employed contractor in the Sylva area in later years.

Mike's heart for young people was evident through extensive volunteer coaching roles in his youth. He dedicated countless hours coaching football, baseball, and basketball for Jackson County little leagues. His grandchildren often heard stories of the impact of his coaching from the men he coached during the 1980's.

Mike was a believer in Christ with ties to Webster Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his three siblings: Bill Broom, Shirley Broom Shuler, and Helen Broom Parker; his son, Phillip Bodford; his grandson, Zachary Bryson; and his nephew, Dean Parker.

"Papaw Mike's" legacy lives on through his loving wife Anita, the many lives he touched, and the friendships he made. His dedication to craftsmanship and his ability to make people laugh will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Appalachian Funeral Services of Sylva is assisting the family during this time. No services are planned currently.
