Michael “Duane” Hall, 71, of Sylva, born July 28, 1954, died peacefully at home on May 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Dolores Allison Hall and brother Danny Hall (Wanda). He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Robin Frye Hall, his daughter Heather Hall Wright (Chris) and his son Derek Hall (Kristina). He is survived by five grandchildren: Kaitlyn Star Smith, Seth Castorina (Gracie), Chance Castorina, Keara Elizabeth Shuler and Jacob Bragg Hall and three great-grandchildren: Kaiden and Creedence Bombay and Dakota Castorina. He is also survived by his sister Marsha Bates (Larry) of Sylva and Kevin Hall (Andreina) of Waynesville.

Duane was a life-long resident of Sylva, graduated from Sylva Webster High School and joined the family logging business where he remained for over 30 years. Duane found joy in a simple life, tube fishing the Tuckasegee River, reading his Bible, listening to classic rock and Bluegrass gospel music, and enjoying his family and friends. 

Duane will be remembered as a loving husband, caring brother, devoted father, and Popaw. 

A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer during what would have been Duane and Robin’s 50th anniversary. Details will follow later.
